UltraVis™ | Low Iron Glass

UltraVis™ is made from a high-quality silica which has approximately 75% less iron content than standard float glass, allowing for a clearer glass with much higher light transmission. All other finishing processes are the same as EnduraLam™.

The main ingredient of glass is silica which has naturally occurring iron oxides. It is these oxides that cause the greenish tint you can see in most butt jointed structurally glazed windows such as total vision systems, shop fronts, showers, glass cabinets etc.

UltraVis™ is perfect for areas which require excellent clarity like shop fronts, display cases, aquariums and in decorative situations. Due to its clarity, low iron glass is not recommended for areas requiring high levels of solar control.

PERFORMANCE/SPECIFYING

UltraVis can be specified as monolithic, Laminated or in an IGU. UltraVis has approximately 75% less iron oxides than standard clear float glass. The percentage of light that passes through a glass surface is known as light transmission, the higher the percentage is, the more light passes through the glass and the clearer it is. The graph below shows that low iron glass is superior to standard float glass when it comes to clarity. All glass must be engineered to specific code and design, please contact Woods Glass to find out more information.

CLEANING/MAINTENANCE

Normally when cleaning glass, a vinegar-based glass cleaner or mild dish soap and water with a soft, lint-free cloth or paper products is recommended.

A squeegee or soft cloth may be carefully used to dry the glass and help avoid water spots. It is not recommended to use petroleum-based cleaners or solvents as they can streak the glass and weaken the seal between the glass and frame. Avoid washing in direct sunlight to reduce streaking on the glass.

Never use razor blades, steel wool, putty knives or abrasive pads as they may damage the glass, particularly on toughened glass

RANGE

Many different thicknesses and sizes are available for UltraVis. Woods are able to supply many more colours so please contact us to discuss special requirements.

SPECIFICATION

We recommend using Masterspec 4611WG Woods Glass Exterior Glazing when specifying this system.
